The smell is unique and very peculiar. Agarwood is one of the most precious oils in the world and was previously mainly used by royalty and the wealthy.

Fragrance and Wellbeing author Jennifer Peace Rhind writes that the fragrance of Agarwood "can transport us through time and space to an imaginary antiquity or even a trance state".
We believe this offering could do just that! Our essential agarwood oil envelops with an extremely persistent sweet warmth, a deep, precious and wonderful wood aroma, smoky, amber, incense, honey tobacco notes and sensually underlined with animal notes that resemble musk / castoreum. The aroma becomes sweeter and musky / woody in the very long dry season. It's rich, balanced, complex, memorable, and absolutely amazing!

Agarwood originally comes from Southeast Asia and formed the basis for the legendary Arabic perfume oud. It is also known as Aloeswood, Eaglewood, Kyara, Ood or Ud and many other names depending on the type of forest and the country of origin. Agarwood is valued by many cultures and is a highly valued addition to the range of natural perfumes. It is widely used in sacred oil blends and for ceremonial anointing. Kurt Schnaubelt writes: "... Agarwood oils evoke mental or spiritual reflection and a newly inflamed feeling of awe for the phenomena of nature."

Agarwood essential oil is obtained by distilling the heartwood of the genus Aquilaria, a flowering tree of various species that grows in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam (A. crassna). Further on in the Philippines (A. filaria) and in northeast India, Burma, Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (A. agallocha). Only the trees that have been infected with a parasitic fungus (Phialophora parasitica and others) are the source of this rare and highly prized material. When infected, the trees attack the affected wood by producing an oleoresin that becomes dark and highly aromatic after a few years. The oleoresin accumulates so much that the mass and density of the infected wood causes it to sink into the water. The Japanese call it Jinkoh - "wood that sinks" and in China ch'en hsiang - the "sinking incense" wood.

It is the frankincense industry that is responsible for the major commercial uses of Agarwood - it is one of the oldest and most well known frankincense materials in the Far East.

PLEASE NOTE: The trees from which we get our Agarwood essential oil come from a forest in Vietnam, where they are sustainably harvested and regularly replanted. They will be hand-vaccinated when they are 10 years old. After the infection has multiplied for 2 years, the trees are harvested for distillation. It passes CITES certification, which shows that this product has been legally imported and approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

For a truly unique fragrance experience, apply a drop of Agarwood essential oil to your inner wrist and rub both wrists together. Although we already have a 5% dilution here, we recommend carrying out a careful skin compatibility test with the smallest amount of oil before use on people with sensitive skin.
